What problem does Copy Surnames from Family Tree solve?

When we are comparing DNA matches on AncestryDNA it can be useful to compare the surnames of your matches in order to identify a common ancestor. Copy Surnames from Family Tree streamlines this process by allowing you to copy all surnames attached to a matches family tree with a single click.

How does Copy Surnames from Family Tree work?

With Copy Surnames from Family Tree, a new button titled Copy all surnames is added to the top of your DNA matches surnames list on the trees tab of AncestryDNA. Clicking this button will copy all the surnames in their tree to your clipboard separated by commas.

How do I use Copy Surnames from Family Tree?
  • Ensure Copy Surnames from Family Tree is enabled in the Genealogy Assistant pop-up panel.
  • Navigate to the Trees tab of a match on AncestryDNA and scroll down to the Surnames section.
  • Ensure all surnames are visible (expanded) and click the Copy all surnames button.
  • All surnames have been copied to your clipboard and can be pasted into any application you would like.
