What problem does Ancestry Shared Matches Sorting solve?
Ancestry’s shared matches page is always sorted by how much DNA each person shares with the tester, so the shared matches that share the most with the match you opened are mixed in everywhere. There is no built-in way to change that sort. Ancestry Shared Matches Sorting lets you pick the default sort order for every shared matches page from the pop-up panel.
How does Ancestry Shared Matches Sorting work?
A three-way sort selector appears in the Genealogy Assistant pop-up panel with three options: Date, Tester, and Match. Whichever option you choose becomes the default every time you open a shared matches page. Tester keeps Ancestry’s built-in behaviour of sorting by cM shared with you. Match flips the list to sort by cM shared with the match you opened, so the strongest shared matches of that match are at the top. Date sorts by the date the match was added. The default for this feature is Match.
How do I use Ancestry Shared Matches Sorting?
- Open the Genealogy Assistant pop-up panel.
- Find Ancestry Shared Matches Sorting and click the option you want: Date, Tester, or Match.
- Open any match’s Shared Matches tab. The list will be sorted by the option you chose every time.
