On a shared matches page, every shared match has two things you might want to click: their name, which takes you to more shared matches, or their tree to see where they fit. Ancestry hard-codes both the name and photo to open the Trees tab, so there is no one-click way to go straight to a shared match’s shared matches. Open Trees from Shared Match Photo pairs with Open Shared Matches from Match Name so the photo opens the tree and the name opens the shared matches list.
How does Open Trees from Shared Match Photo work?
On any match’s shared matches page, each shared match’s profile photo is updated so clicking it opens the Trees tab for that person, while clicking the name opens their shared matches list (with the sort order you have chosen for shared matches already applied). With both features turned on, you always have a one-click path to either view without having to switch tabs after landing.
How do I use Open Trees from Shared Match Photo?
- Ensure Open Trees from Shared Match Photo is enabled in the Genealogy Assistant pop-up panel.
- Open a DNA match and click the Shared Matches tab.
- Click any shared match’s profile photo to open their tree, or click their name to open their shared matches list.
