What problem does Change Text Case via Shift + Up/Down solve?

Change Text Case via Shift + Up/Down changes the text in a box on your Ancestry family tree pages to UPPERCASE or to standard case with one key press. Names and places copied from transcribed records often arrive in capitals. Without it you retype the whole box to fix them.

How does Change Text Case via Shift + Up/Down work?

Click into a box and press Shift + Up to change everything in it to UPPERCASE. Press Shift + Down to change it to standard case, with a capital at the start of each word and the rest in lower case. The whole box changes, not just the part you have highlighted.

It works in the one-line text boxes on these Ancestry pages, but not in boxes that hold several lines, such as notes:

A person’s profile page and its edit panels.
The family tree and the list of all people in a tree.
Your list of family trees.
The page where you compare a record with your tree before saving it.

Standard case treats every word the same way, so check names such as McDonald or van der Berg afterwards. They come out as Mcdonald and Van Der Berg, which take a quick fix by hand. Nothing is saved until you save the panel or form as usual, so you can always retype a box.

How do I use Change Text Case via Shift + Up/Down?

In the Genealogy Assistant pop-up panel, make sure Change Text Case via Shift + Up/Down is turned on.
On an Ancestry family tree page, click into a text box, such as a name or place in a profile’s edit panel.
Press Shift + Up for UPPERCASE, or Shift + Down for standard case. The text in the box changes at once.

Keyboard Shortcuts

Shift + Up changes the text in the box you are typing in to UPPERCASE.
Shift + Down changes the text in the box you are typing in to standard case.
