What problem does Search Ancestry Family Trees by Name solve?
Ancestry’s Create and Manage Trees page lists every one of your trees, but once you have more than a handful, finding the right one means scrolling and reading. Search Ancestry Family Trees by Name adds a search box to the top of the page that jumps to a tree as you type its name, and the same list of trees is available from Quick Search on any page.
How does Search Ancestry Family Trees by Name work?
A search box is added to the top of the Create and Manage Trees page that enables you to search your family trees by name with a quick autocomplete popup. Your trees, including trees shared with you, are indexed automatically and refreshed about every six hours; the Index Trees button refreshes the list on demand. This feature also works with Quick Search.
Type part of a tree name and the matching trees appear below the box. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to move between them and press Enter, or click a tree, to open it. The list covers every tree on your account, both your own trees and trees other members have shared with you, and it is refreshed about every six hours, so a tree you create or are invited to appears on its own. The Index Trees button beside the box (labelled Rebuild Index once a list exists) refreshes it immediately. In Quick Search, type tree followed by the name to open a tree from any web page.
How do I use Search Ancestry Family Trees by Name?
- Ensure Search Ancestry Family Trees by Name is enabled in the Genealogy Assistant pop-up panel.
- Open the Create and Manage Trees page on Ancestry.
- Start typing a tree name in the search box. Use the
UpandDownarrow keys to move between matches and pressEnterto open the highlighted tree. - If a tree is missing, click Index Trees (or Rebuild Index) to refresh the list right away, or wait for the next automatic check. Automatic checks run while Quick Search via Alt + Q is enabled.
