What problem does Download Clusters as CSV File solve?
AncestryDNA’s Clusters tool groups your matches by who shares DNA with whom, but the data stays inside the grid, and there is no export. If you want to work with the cluster data in a spreadsheet or another DNA tool, you cannot get it out. Download Clusters as CSV File adds a button that walks the grid for you and saves every pair of clustered matches to a CSV file.
How does Download Clusters as CSV File work?
On any completed cluster run on the Ancestry Clusters page, a Download CSV button is added directly above the grid, with a gear icon labelled Download Settings beside it. When you click it, a CSV row is saved for every pair of matches that share DNA in the grid.
Pairs that share no DNA are left out, and each pair appears once, so the file has no repeated rows. The button counts through the requests as it works, and you can use other tabs while it runs. The CSV downloads automatically when it finishes, and the gear icon lets you change the download speed.
The button exports whatever the grid is currently showing. Leave every cluster collapsed and you get the whole report. Open a single cluster and the grid narrows to that cluster, so the CSV covers just those matches. This works on both the standard clusters report and the newer Custom clusters page.
How do I use Download Clusters as CSV File?
- Ensure Download Clusters as CSV File is enabled in the Genealogy Assistant pop-up panel.
- Open your AncestryDNA test, select the Matches tab, then choose By cluster.
- Open a cluster report. Standard clusters opens the full report with the grid already showing. A custom cluster from the History list opens on the Custom clusters page, where you click the row showing the match count to display the grid.
- Cluster reports expire after a few months. If the one you want shows Refresh cluster, run it again and let it finish before downloading.
- Leave every cluster collapsed to export the whole report, or open one cluster to narrow the grid and export just those matches.
- Click Download CSV above the grid. The CSV file downloads when it finishes. The grid stays as you left it, so you can open another cluster and download that one as well.
- To change the download speed, click the gear icon beside Download CSV, choose a Download speed and click Save & Close.

Shared cM (Exact) keeps the decimal places Ancestry rounds away in the grid. The two Predicted Relationships columns list every relationship Ancestry considers possible between the pair, each with its likelihood, and Cluster names the cluster the pair belongs to in the grid.
