What problem does FindAGrave Search Genealogy Websites solve?
A memorial on FindAGrave gives you a name, a birth and death date, two places and often the person’s parents, spouse and children. The next step is almost always to look for that same person somewhere else, which means retyping all of it into one search form after another. FindAGrave Search Genealogy Websites turns the memorial you are already reading into a pre-filled search on the sites you use.
How does FindAGrave Search Genealogy Websites work?
A button titled Search Genealogy Websites is added beside Share on FindAGrave memorial pages. Hover over it for a drop-down that searches Ancestry, FamilySearch, FindMyPast, MyHeritage, WikiTree and Newspapers.com for the person on the memorial, using their name, dates, places and family members. Tick the sites you use and Search selected opens them all at once.
Everything the search needs is read from the memorial itself. That includes a maiden name where the memorial shows one, the birth and death years, the birth and death places, and the parents and spouse listed under Family Members. Each site then gets as much of it as that site can use, so a search on FamilySearch or MyHeritage carries the parents and spouse, while a name and year index like Newspapers.com gets the name and the years.
The drop-down includes:
- Search selected opens every ticked site at once, each in its own new tab.
- Ancestry
- FamilySearch Records
- FamilySearch Tree
- FindMyPast
- MyHeritage
- WikiTree
- Newspapers.com
The tick boxes beside each site are remembered, and they are the same list used by Add Advanced Search to Profiles on Ancestry and MyHeritage Search Genealogy Sites from Tree. Choose your sites once and the same set follows you between all three. The Ancestry search opens on whichever regional Ancestry site you have set in the Advanced Settings page.
