Our privacy policies

Genea Research makes three browser extensions. All three run on your own computer, none of them tracks you, and we never sell your data. Here is what each one does with your information, in plain language, with a link to its full privacy policy.

Genealogy Assistant

  • Your family trees, GEDCOM files, DNA match details, settings and CSV downloads stay on your computer. They are never sent to us.
  • There is no tracking inside the extension: no analytics, no usage statistics and no error reports.
  • Your free trial and subscription are handled by ExtensionPay, and payments are processed by Stripe. We never see your card details.
  • If you report an issue, you see exactly what will be sent before you confirm. We use your email address only to reply to you, and we delete reports within 30 days.
  • A few times a day it downloads a small file from our server that keeps it working when genealogy websites change. Nothing personal is sent.

OpenTranscribe

  • We do not collect, store or have access to your documents, transcriptions or API keys.
  • Your transcriptions are saved in a folder you choose on your computer, and your API keys stay in your browser.
  • Your images go straight from your browser to the AI provider you choose, under that provider’s privacy policy. With a model running on your own computer, they never leave your device.
  • A few times a day it downloads the list of available models and their prices. Nothing personal is sent.

Genealogy Blurring Tool

  • It is free, with no account, no sign-up and no tracking of any kind.
  • It reads the page you are viewing only to blur it. Names and other details from the page are never sent anywhere or saved.
  • Your settings and custom blur locations stay in your browser.
  • A few times a day it downloads a small file that tells it where to blur as genealogy websites change. Nothing personal is sent.
