A monthly or yearly subscription can’t be converted into a lifetime plan directly. Instead, you cancel the subscription and then buy the lifetime plan using the same email address.
Cancelling does not cut off your access. Your subscription keeps working until the end of the period you have already paid for, so you never pay twice for the same time.
Step-by-Step Guide to Switching to Lifetime
- Click the Genealogy Assistant icon in your browser’s toolbar to open the pop-up panel. Scroll to the bottom and click Manage your account.
- Enter the email address you used to purchase Genealogy Assistant. Stripe, our payment processor, will email you a sign-in link. Click the link to open your account page. If the email doesn’t arrive, check your spam or junk folder.
- Under Current subscription, click Cancel subscription and confirm. Your account page now shows the date your subscription ends. Genealogy Assistant keeps working as normal until that date.
- Once that date has passed, open the Genealogy Assistant pop-up panel and click Purchase Genealogy Assistant at the bottom.
- Choose the Lifetime plan and complete the payment on the secure Stripe page. Use the same email address as your old subscription.
- To check that the switch worked, open the pop-up panel again. The bottom of the panel now says you are a premium user.
If Genealogy Assistant still asks you to purchase
Click Purchase Genealogy Assistant, then click Already paid? Log in below the plans. Enter the email address you paid with, then click the confirmation link in the email you receive. The log-in guide walks through this step by step.
If the panel still does not show you as a premium user, remove and re-add Genealogy Assistant, then log in again. Back up your settings and data first if you have groups or indexed trees saved.
Switching sooner, or after a failed payment
If you would rather switch before your current period ends, or if a recent payment on your subscription failed, email us at [email protected] before you buy the lifetime plan. We will close your subscription for you so the lifetime plan activates straight away.
